Gordon Oscar Oihus was born March 4, 1931 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Oscar and Mary (Davis) Oihus. He attended rural school near Grafton and graduated from Grafton High School. Following his education he farmed with his father near Nash, ND. He later worked at the Nash Grain and Trading Co. in Nash. He served in the United States Army with the 3rd Armored Division, 40th Tank Battalion in Germany from 1952-1954. He was united in marriage to Leona Trudeau. Together they had four children. He worked for the U.S. Department of State.
Gordon was an active member of the DAV-Arizona Department, serving as Chaplain, Honor Guard and Ritual Team. He loved serving in the military. He was an avid reader of history and followed the local and national news closely. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved to garden, planting trees and flowers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 6:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND in the spring. Military rites will be provided by the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
