Leslie and a friend, James Cook of Burlington, while fishing in Shell Creek near the mouth of Cedar Creek, had stepped on some drift wood which gave way under their weight. Leslie was thrown into the deeper water, but James was able to keep his footing. The Cook youth, realizing the plight of his friend entered the stream in an attempt to save the Aagard youth. Other members of the group were able to get young Cook out of the icy waters, but Leslie Aagard was born June 6, 1937, at Burlington and passed away August 31,1947 at the age of ten years, two months and 25 days, death having been caused by drowning, when he slipped into a hole in Shell Creek while fishing. He is survived by his parents, two sisters, Bette Ann and Bonnie; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Leslie of Port Orchard, Wash.; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Aagard of Burlington and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
