Barton Brown SMITH was the son of Brooks SMITH & Tabitha Ann WRIGHT. Per a bible record, housed in the Heritage House, in Scottsdale, AL, it states:
" . . . Barton Brown Smith was borned in Jackson County, Alabama the 17th of September, 1827. Cidney Baretta Carter Smith was borned in Talladega, Alabama the 3rd of September, 1846.
Dr. Barton Brown Smith and Sidney Barretta Carter were married April 23rd, 1865.
Barton Brown Smith departed this life August 22, 1907.
Cidney Baretta C. Smith departed this life January 26, 1894.
NOTE: Barton Brown Smith first married Sarah Elizabeth Jones in 1853. Her father, George Tannahill Jones, disapproved of the marriage and when she died without heirs, he came for her things. Smith refused this request and kept her things, including a portrait of George T. Jones. Almost 70 years later, I bought this portrait back from Mrs. Jones of Scottsboro, A l a., a daughter of Barton B. Smith by his seond marriage, P.J.B."
Barton & Cidney had the following children:
