When Thelma was 8 months old, the family moved to 6209 Rodrigo where Uncle J. E. "Jim" Haney had built a new home. Jim unmarried at the time so the family lived there until Thelma's father, Charles W. Haney, Sr. built a home next door at 6207 Rodrigo. When the family began to increase in size, "Charlie" built a two story brick house at 6205 Rodrigo Street where the family resided until 1945.

Thelma attended Memorial Elementary School (grades K thru 5) and then attended George Washington Jr High (6-8) and M. B. Lamar Senior High (9-11) graduating in 1941. Thelma worked at Houston Lighting and Power Company as a cashier from 1942 thru Sept 1944. She joined the Cadet Nurse Corps and was assigned to St. Mary's School of Nursing in Galveston. She graduated as a registered nurse in Sept 1947 and went to work at Baptist Memorial hospital from 1947-1948. She worked as an industrial nurse for Foley's (downtown) from 1948 to 1952. She also attended the University of Houston at night, part-time in 1950-1951. Thelma worked a second job as private duty nurse during many of her early years in the field. When she got a offer of a better job with Prudential Insurance Company on Holcombe Boulevard she decided to accept. She worked there from 1952 - 1955. Thelma was a public health nurse for the Visiting Nurses Association form 1955 to 1959. In 1959 she was offered a job as a public health nurse and went to work for the Pasadena Independent School District (PISD) as school nurse at Pasadena High School. Thelma was my older sister and she really I really looked up to her. She was very good to me and to our younger sister Betty. She was about eight years older that I was and she use to play with us and entertain us. We had a lot of fun together as a family. It seemed that Daddy was always working and Mother was always working around the house. Betty and thought that Thelma had hung the moon. We teased her about her boyfriends. Finally she went to Galveston, Texas to train as a nurse. I was very proud of her and what she was doing. She had worked for the Houston Lighting and Power as a Cashier and runner. She also work at nights at the State Theatre as a cashier.

Thelma supported me all though my life in every way. I love to call her on the phone and she would advise me on anything that was worrying me. She was very soothing for me to talk too. I miss not having her to call since she went to heaven.

Thelma died on March 31, 2003 in Bryan, Texas. She lived to be 78 years and 4 months and 11 days old. Canon Funeral Home handled the arraignments for her funeral. Services were held in The new Hope United Methodist Church at Field Store, Texas. This is the same church that her brother, Charles Wesley Haney Jr had his service in as did our Grandfather and Uncle Station Haney.
It is a small country church next to Field Store Cemetery where member of our family are at rest. It was a great service and we feed lunch before the funeral in the church hall. She is buried on the west end of the cemetery near the road.
