Thomas L. Overton, 73, passed away January 1, 2015. He was born in Des Moines, IA and moved to Florida in 1966.

Tom is survived by a wonderful and devoted family which includes his wife of 52 years, Sharon; 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Tom received his bachelor’s degree from UCF in electrical engineering followed by a rewarding 44 year career in the space program. He worked for Douglas Aircraft Company on the Saturn program then later the Space Shuttle program with NASA. Tom was well respected for his complex work as a scheduler for the space shuttle launches. His passion for the Space Shuttle program led him to the additional privilege of providing tours at the cape to various presidents, dignitaries and celebrities, which he continued to do as a volunteer after his retirement in 2010. He was actively involved in his Church, teaching Sunday school and serving as an elder. Tom had many interests in life including traveling, sports, officiating high school football and basketball, and history, to name a few, but above all spending time with his family is what he enjoyed the most.

A celebration of his life will be held at Park Ave Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, with visitation beginning at 1pm followed by the service at 2pm.
