Alice Lillian Sherin, age 87, of Bellingham, passed away Tues., Nov. 12, 1996, at Highland Convalescent Center in Bellingham. She was born July 2, 1909, in Morrinville, Alberta, Canada, to Jarvis and Julia (Cronin) Ryan, and had been a resident of Skagit and Whatcom County for the past 76 years. She graduated from harmony High School in Bellingham in 1926 and Normal School, which is now known as Western Washington University, in Bellingham in 1928. She married Philip G. Sherin in 1939. Mrs. Sherin taught school in View, WA for one year; Pleasant Valley, WA for five years; Meridian School District for four years; and Sedro Woolley School District for 22 years. Mrs. Sherin retired from teaching in 1972. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, Immaculate Heart of Mary Altar Society, Evergreen Hospital Guild all in Sedro Woolley, and the Retired Teacher's Association. She is survived by her ex-husband, Phil Sherin of Mt. Vernon; daughters: Phylis Ann Sherin of Mukilteo, Kathleen Louis Robinson & husband Church of Nooksack, Eileen Margaret Kosa of Denham, MN, Nancy Mary Durrant of Simi Valley, CA; son, Duane Vincent Sherin & wife Louise of Morton, WA; brother Herbert Thomas Ryan & wife Irene of Bellingham; sister-in-law Lena "Wispy" Ryan of Bellingham; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nephews,nieces, and other relatives. Visitation on Sun., Nov. 17, 4- p.m. at Greenacres Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Mon., Nov. 18, 1:00 p.m. at Greenacres Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Morelli officiating and burial will follow at Greenacres Memorial park. Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
