Saint. Saint Barbara is one of the most venerated Saints in the world, in particular in South America, Asia, Europe and the United States. According to the Customs prevalent in his own land, her father promised in marriage to the prefect of his city: she though in his heart, she had already decided to consecrate themselves to God. It was very nice and so to protect the many sweethearts, her father, Dioscorus, the kept locked up in a tower. One day the building caught fire, but the young saint miraculously managed to escape. Meanwhile were pressing demands "betrothed" with which, for obvious interests, had been signed. Barbara, persisted in her choice and so her father gave to magistrates on charges of disobedience to parental authority (in Roman law, the pater-familias had absolute authority over all his household, including slaves, his wife and children). Barbara succeeded so miraculous escapes from her prison closed and guarded. She was picked up, tortured with hot irons and humiliate her even more, reaching naked around the city. At that time some miracles occurred: in one case found himself dressed, in another the beat sticks turned into delicate peacock feathers. Finally, it was the same parent to decapitate it and then lightning struck him, reducing her father into ashes. Saint Barbara is known as "Lady lightning", is patron of the Navy, the fire brigade, the blasters, miners and carpenters. Today the remains of Saint Barbara, rest in the homonymous Chapel of Burano, in the province of Venice, Veneto, Italy, brought, it seems, by the Venetians in the 10th century, from Constantinople, today's Istanbul, Turkey. She was born in 273, and died, apparently in 306 to Nicodemia an ancient city of Anatolia, Turkey, now called Izmit.
