Mary Elizabeth is the daughter of Pickney A. Westbrook and his first wife Ann Elizabeth Shields. When her father went to fight in the civil war on 4/20/1862, her mother took care of her and her brother, Marcus Westbrook. But she and her mother took ill, after only a month of being without Pickney. They died within a week of one another.
