Funeral Services for Vernie Cecelia Metz
Vernie Cecelia Metz, 86, of Fairfield, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at the long-term care of Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 7 at the First United Methodist Church, Fairfield with the Rev. Ken Kent oficiating. Visitation with the family present will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 6 at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will be in the Glasgow Cemetery in Glasgow. Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church or to the Glasgow Cemetery.
Mrs. Metz was born February 9, 1914 in Glasgow, the daughter of Parvin D. and Helen Louise Thomson) Howell. She married Kenneth L. Metz on November 29, 1936 in Chicago, Ill., who preceded her in death February 21, 1971. She spent all of her life in Jefferson County, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1932. She taught school in Jefferson County, worked at Vorhies Appliance Store and was a bank employee at the Iowa State Bank. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, the Philathea Sunday school class, the Priscilla Circle at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield and the Glasgow Dorcas Society.
Survivors include three sisters and two brothers, Margaret “Peg” Newell and Fern Crafton of Fairfield, Evelyn Zumdome of Fort Madison, George Howell of Louisville, Ky. And Thomas Howell of Lockridge; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Lucille Howell and a brother-in-law, Pete Crafton.
