Captain Geoffrey Bowlby was the son of the prominent English barrister Edward S. Bowlby and Elizabeth Vans Agnew of Gilston Park, Herfordshire. Captain Bowlby was a member of the Royal Horse Guards which was part of the 8th Cavalry Brigade. He was killed at the 2nd battle of Ypres leading a counterattack against heavy German fire. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate. Captain Bowlby is buried on the field.
