DANIELSVILLE – Jean Thomas “Tommy” Myers, 62, a Danielsville resident for the past 37 years, died peacefully Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Hampton House from spinocerebellar ataxia.

Born in Macon September 3, 1952, he was the son of the late Jean T. Myers and the late Hazel C. Myers of Macon and Gray. Mr. Myers was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Ann Makohon. He was a 1970 graduate of Jones County High School in Gray and he served honorably in the Georgia National Guard until 1976. He was a professional and dedicated driver with Averitt Express and later retired from Estes Trucking Company. He was a member and a deacon of the Colbert Baptist Church, the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class, and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and of NASCAR. He loved and devoted himself to his family and friends. He stood out among them as a man who was highly respected, deeply loved and straightforward.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Terri Hall Myers, Danielsville; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Wendy Myers, Colbert; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Jason Mercer, Watkinsville; four grandchildren, Kara Grace Myers, Colbert, Avery Mercer, Austin Mercer, and Kelsey Mercer, all of Watkinsville; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Chuck Grace, Jeffersonville; brother, Jimmy Myers, Houston, Texas; mother-in-law, Bonnie Hall-Standard, Danielsville; brother-in-law, Tommy (Pam) Hall, Danielsville; and three nephews; and three nieces.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hampton House for their compassionate ands thoughtful care during his years of residency and to thank the staff of Compassionate Care (Agape) Hospice for their wisdom and support at a critical time.

Friends are cordially invited for a visitation with the family from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Danielsville. The funeral service is to be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, in the sanctuary of Colbert Baptist Church, 65 S. Fifth St., where the Revs. Brad Wilson and David Shivar will co-officiate. Private interment will follow in Danielsville Memorial Gardens near his grandson, Rhett Thomas Myers. The family requests friends to dress casual.

Active pallbearers will be Dwayne Patton, Randy Ray, Tommy Hall, Micah Seehorn, Steve Bates, Russ Moon, Rick Standard, and Marvin Smith.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests with gratitude that memorials be directed to the National Ataxia Foundation, 2600 Fernbrook Lane, Suite 119, Minneapolis, MN 5447.
