GUILFORD -- Alfred Otis Abbott, 90, formerly of Lynn, Mass., died Saturday at his son's home, where he had resided for the past six months. He was born in Marshalltown, Nova Scotia, on Feb. 2, 1901, the son of Thomas and Margaret Mullen Abbott.
He came to the United States in 1930 and worked at General Electric Co. in Lynn for two years. He then founded his own produce business, retiring from it when he was 65. He then worked at the Pocahontas Spring Water store, retiring when he was 85.
Mr. Abbott was a member of the East Baptist Church in Lynn and attended Windham Chapel in Dummerston.
Family members include his wife of 65 years, the former Thelma Thompson; sons Alfred Abbott of Guilford and Ronald Abbott of Colebrook, Conn.; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and brother Durward Abbott and sister Ruth Woof, both of Nova Scotia.
A graveside service will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody, Mass. The Rev. Bruce Stevens of East Baptist Church will officiate. Ker, Westerlund & Fleming Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
