Carole Mary Kortenhaus was the oldest child of John and Verna Cronin. She was born in Newark, and was a resident of Mountainside, NJ, before moving to Spring Lake in 1972. She later moved to Sea Girt, and also maintained a residence in Florida for many years. She was a graduate of Monmouth University and employed for 22 years by the US Dept. of Defense supporting Army programs at Fort Monmouth, NJ and 10 years at the Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) in Orlando. While in Spring Lake, she was actively involved in St. Catharine’s School, which her children attended. She taught art classes, and assisted Sisters Rose and Linda in the classroom. She would even drive the school bus when needed. In 1979, she took several nuns to Disney World.
Mrs. Kortenhaus is survived by her children, Lynne Kummer, Frederick, MD, Katherine Harris, Orlando, FL, Robert J. Kortenhaus, Howell, NJ, Sue Campia, Falmouth, MA, Michael B. Kortenhaus, Howell, NJ, Daniel J. Kortenhaus, St. Petersburg, FL, John Kortenhaus, Plano, TX, and Andrea West, Bayville, NJ. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Dan Cronin, Dennis Cronin, Pat Sloan, Katie Bevins and Mary Konikowski. She was predeceased by a sister, Claire Hicks.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at St. Catharine’s Cemetery.
additional information: She will also be fondly remembered by her companion of more than 25 years Theo Rehak. Pallbearers were her 4 sons, Robert J. Kortenhaus, Michael B. Kortenhaus, Daniel J. Kortenhaus and John Kortenhaus as well as Bryan A. Hunt, grandson and Daniel Kortenhaus, Jr., grandson.
