He was a machinist in the heavy equipment industry by trade. He was extremely handy and could fix/repair anything. He loved to garden, to tinker in his workshop and to spend time with his family. He loved playing and interacting with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved the personal attention he paid to each one of them on an individual basis. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren think that “grandpa” is the greatest ever. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict.
He is survived by his spouse Lorraine who currently resides in St. George, Utah, his three children: Ronald Lee Lakey and his spouse Lori who reside in Alta Loma, CA, Richard William Lakey and his spouse Gail who reside in St. George Utah and Debra Kathleen Lakey who resides in San Gabriel, CA; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and two more coming in the next several weeks. He was preceded in death by his sister Marion Barela.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 29th, at 10:00 AM at the Bloomington 2nd Ward Building at 200 W. Brigham Road. A viewing will precede the funeral services from 8:30 AM – 9:45 AM. The Interment will take place on Tuesday December 2, 2014 at Rose Hills Cemetery in Southern California.
