FALL RIVER – Gloria M. (Alves) Abrantes, 70, of Hartwell Street, Fall River, died Friday, January 18, 2008, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. A Fall River native and lifelong resident, Ms. Abrantes was the daughter of the late John & Virginia (Monis) Alves.

Ms. Abrantes was a homemaker and a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo at Foxwoods, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her partner, Helen Linhares of Fall River; five sons, Edward of Tiverton, Manuel of Fall River, Joseph of Pinellas Park, Florida, and David of New Bedford; four daughters, Debra Audet of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Nancy Abrantes of New Bedford, Dorothy Cambra of Fall River, Pauline Abrantes-Schuyler of St. Petersburg, Florida; two brothers, Charles Alves of Fall River and Frank Alves of Wildwood, Florida; three sisters, Marie Ringette of Wildwood, Florida, Irene Arruda of Westport, and Dorothy Maclaughlin of Middletown, RI; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Michael Abrantes, and the sister of the late John Alves, Manuel Alves, Hilda Goff, and Theresa Skelton.

Services will be private, at the convenience of the family. All arrangements have been lovingly entrusted to the care of THE HEBERT-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 945 S. FALL Main St., Fall River, MA
