When I read this poem, it spoke to me, Mom would have loved it.....

If you could see me now you wouldn't shed a tear, Though you may not understand why I'm no longer there. Remember my spirit, that is the real me because I'm still very much alive, I've just been set free. Oh, if you could only see!

I have held our Father's face and I've touched my Savior's hand. All of Heaven's angels rejoiced as I entered the promised land. Beyond the gates of pearl I've walked on the golden streets.

I've touched the walls of jasper and dipped my foot in the crystal sea. The beauty is beyond words and nothing could compare, I've even seen our Lords mansion and someday I'll meet you there. Let Jesus be your guide because "His Word" will show you the way. So please don't cry because we will meet again someday.

I can only imagine if Mom could talk to me from Heaven, she would probably describe something similar to the poem above and she would tell me how she loves being there with Jesus-overjoyed beyond words!
Also, I know she would tell me how much she loves me, is still watching over and waiting for me. I truly believe parents and their children are never apart spiritually, even if they are physically....

~goodbye~ (for Mom)

when we lose someone
sometimes thoughts run through our head
we might look back and realize
there were things left undone
or words that went unsaid
that letter that never got mailed
the meaningful "last goodbye"
the powerful I love you
living with the memory of thinking
always "another day- or more time"
during the together time we had
makes the heart so heavy, so sad
then one day something speaks
to you reminding you
that it's all part of God's plan
and someday
we'll be together again
in that much better place
but for now i
will have to
find courage, happiness and the strength
to go through each day
without you in my life
I'm thinking about you on your birthday
Mom
the first one, since you've been gone
and im sure somehow you know today
i wish i could've told you
"goodbye"
Happy Birthday in Heaven
I Love You,
(January 2012)

~I Miss You Every Day ~

little reminders of you
in so many things and places
sometimes i close my eyes
and can hear you so plainly
...your southern east texas drawl
i've described to friends
that never got to meet you
and it seems like it always ends
with a story, or two :)
thinking about you mom-
you were the child that loved going barefoot
and the classy woman
who couldn't have enough
different colors of shoes...
the timeless lady
who always believed when you
leave out the front door
if you're armed with
your pocket bible, lipstick and "rouge"
well, then there's nothing you can't do❣
i love you mom and so many days
i just want to call you...

Minnie 'Lera' Williams was born in Isla, Sabine Co. TX. She was named after her daddy's sister, Minnie Leara (Williams) Beall of Sabine Co. TX. Her family moved to Alto in nearby Cherokee County TX while she was still in grade school. She was the Salutatorian of her Alto HS Class.
Lera married her school sweetheart. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter.
In 1944 she married William "Bill" Perkins in San Diego CA during his service in the US Marines. They met a few months before when he sent a Telegram during his Leave while she was working as a clerk for Western Union in Bonham TX. It really was Love at First Sight. In 1945 she received the Award of Emblem for Civilian Service by the War Department for her donation and work in the war efforts in Long Beach CA while Bill was stationed at Camp Pendleton.
After Bill's discharge they ultimately returned to Texas. They owned Perkins Brothers Super Save in downtown Ft. Worth from 1950 until 1961. After many hopeful years they became the proud "OOps" parents of another daughter.
Not long after selling the store they transferred to the Longview TX and Shreveport/Bossier LA areas with Bill's salesman job with Neuhoff Meats out of Dallas and found their dream home on Cross Lake in Shreveport for fishing with their boat, until his death.
Lera started working for Texas Industries in Arlington TX shortly after Bill's death, until she retired from their Accounting Department in 1989. She left behind several long-time friends there , but looked forward to playing Bridge more often. In 1995 she was so excited to accomplish her Lifetime Master's Certificate for Contract Bridge. She had always had a competitive spirit since she was young. Also she loved to play dominoes- especially 42 and penny poker, working crossword puzzles, fishing, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and pretty shoes, even though she would rather be barefooted.
Lera volunteered as a phone Counselor in Dallas for the 700 Club during their early years, and also at the Women's Haven Shelter in Ft. Worth. She was a very active member with the First United Methodist Church family of Bedford TX for many years.
She moved from Ft. Worth to the suburbs of the Atlanta GA area to enjoy being closer to her family She also became an active part of The Gathering Place, and made several beloved friends.
Preceding her in death, her husband, William 'Bill' Perkins; parents, Aubrey Payne and Sudie Mason Williams; sisters, Glesnal Smith ('T.D.' ), Laura Phillips (Jack), and 'Doris Renfro (Jack); grandparents , James Galbreith "Rev" and Nannie Meador Mason and Daniel and Mary Ann Mobley Williams,
She is survived by her two daughters, one son-in-law, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several special nieces and nephews.

Everyone whose life she touched will always remember how she kept it classy and was FOREVER YOUNG AT HEART-

A memorial Celebration of Life Service was held Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Carmichael-Hemperley. Family and friends Visitation followed.
