Born in Lexington, he was a son of the Lucille Slone Grubbs and the late Charley Slone. He was an active member of Old Paris Road Church of God and the Church of God Lifebuilders, he taught Senior Adult Sunday School for 30+ years. He served in the U.S. Marines for 23 years in active and reserve status and was a member of the Marine Corp League. Mr. Slone started as a carpenter, became a home builder and developer and later became a rental property owner, and was president of the Lexington Landlords Association. He was an entrepreneur in the true sense of the word. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service in 1985, after serving in various positions including postmaster and manager of labor relations. He was an active member of the Chandler Foundation, former member of the Lions Club, a Kentucky Colonel, and a strong supporter of the Smoky Mountain Children's Home. Mr. Slone's true loves were his family, his church and travels.
Survivors include his children, Andrew P. (Peggy) Slone Jr., Angela Renee' Slone Rogers and Anthony Joaquin Slone; grandchilden, Aaron Slone, Brittany Slone, Clinton Rogers and Joshua Allen Slone; two brothers, Charles Virgil (Geri) Slone and Prentice (Sue) Slone; five sisters, Nanny (Howard) Hall, Shirley (Olan) Storie, Tootie (Hess) Denny, Teresa Slone, and Charlene (Jimmy) Deatherage; and numerous neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Lynn Slone, and a sister Dorothy Hager.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Sat, Old Paris Road Church of God by the Rev. Jack Whitaker and the Rev. Jeffery Simpson. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm today at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Contributions are suggested to the Smoky Mountain Children's Home, 449 McCarn Circle, Sevierville, TN 37862.
