He was born April 4, 1929, in Russell Springs, Ky., to Adonis Ashbrook and Rose Frances Chumbley Ashbrook. He was a member of Isom's Chapel United Methodist Church since 1988. He worked as a Maintenence Supervisor for the Highway Department in Cincinnati, Ohio, until 1988. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy at the end of WW2 and the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Pauline (Pemberton) Ashbrook; one son, Chaplain (Major) Steven D. Ashbrook, US Army and his wife Kyong Mi both assigned in Taegu, Korea; two grandsons, Reverend Steven D. Ashbrook, Jr. and his wife Donna of Panama City, Fla., and David E. Ashbrook of Huntsville; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Grace Ashbrook and Abigayle J. Ashbrook, both of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Adelyne Smith of Dunnville, Ky., and Selma R. Stamer of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; one brother, Henry R. Ashbrook and wife Fay of Stearns, Ky.; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
