Edna "Granny" Cooper, 94 year old Checotah resident, peacefully met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face, on Friday, November 14, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Granny was born on Friday, April 9, 1920 in Waldron, Arkansas to William Enoch and Elizabeth Ruth (Driscoll) Harris. As a toddler, she moved with her family to Saylor Bottoms near Keota, OK, attending school at Star Schools. She met, fell in love and later married Joe Cooper on Monday, April 15, 1940 in Saylor Bottoms. Granny became a wife, mother and a homemaker. They settled in Checotah in 1954. She became a member of Checotah's First Assembly of God church in 1956. Granny began babysitting, loving and caring for children in her home until the mid 80's. She enjoyed sewing and was a great cook, especially her chocolate gravy and biscuits with fresh creamed butter. She will be remembered as a woman who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, always reading her bible and praying. Granny was a precious, elegant woman who was an encourager and she loved all. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her. Granny was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 69 years, Joe Cooper; 4 brothers and 4 sisters; and a son-in-law, Troy Clay. Services celebrating the life of Edna "Granny" Cooper will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at First Assembly of God with Reverend Bud Shackelford and Reverend Larry Hatfield, officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett.
