R. L. PRIVETT, 76, of Duncan, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, in a local hospital.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Letitia Cemetery with the Rev. David Jones, pastor of Hulen United Methodist Church, and Dan Eppler of Hulen, officiating. Burial will be under direction of Becker Funeral Home.
R. L. was born May 28, 1929, in Nocona, Texas, to Martha Maybelle Wheeler and Roy L. Privett Sr.
He married Susan Anastacio in Manteca, Calif., on June 25, 2001.
He graduated from Walters High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1954. After his discharge, he attended the Spartan Aviation School in Tulsa. He worked as an aircraft mechanic at the Fort Sill airfield for Spartan Aviation. He worked as a flight engineer for Pan American Airlines and was also a pilot for American Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
He owned and operated a trucking company and a tour bus company in the San Francisco, Calif. area. R.L. retired to a ranch in Manteca until 2004, when he moved to the Duncan area.
Survivors include his wife Susan of the home; four children from previous marriages, Michael Privett and wife Renee of Gilbert, Ariz., Christina Nelson and husband Curt of Sacramento, Calif., Sabina Pokorney of Auburn, Calif., and Karen Johnson and husband Dan of Ardmore; seven grandchildren, Kristina Patterson of Ardmore, Michael Park and wife Shareece of Houston, Texas, Nicholas Park of Denton, Texas, Evan Privett of Gilbert, Erick and Nathan Nelson, both of Sacramento, and Amanda Pokorney of Auburn; three great-grandchildren, Orion Patterson, Alana Park and Olivia Villarreal; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and R.E. Scruggs of Lawton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby D. Privett and Marion of Yukon, and Billy J. Privett and Shelli of Bridgeport, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Don Wiseley and wife Teresa, and Clinton Barnett, all of Duncan; a sister-in-law, Wilma Smith of Texoma; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley L. Privett; a sister, Arnell Barnett; and a niece, Diana Gammil.
