Giuseppe Amato of Mahopac, formally of the Bronx, died November 14, 2013 at the age of 96. Born on October 21, 1917 to Francesca (Barberi) and Salvatore Amato in the Bronx. As a child he returned to Italy where he grew up and married his soul mate, Vincenza Nigro, in 1938. In 1952, they returned to NY where they shared a wonderful life for 66 years until Vincenza passed away in 2004.

Giuseppe (Joe) is survived by his two daughters, Frances Jacobellis, wife of Frank Jacobellis and Grace Vinciguerra, both of Mahopac. He is also survived by his Grandchildren: Thomas and Kay-Lynn Jacobellis, Victoria and Eric Luczkowski and Joseph and Lauren Vinciguerra. He was also blessed with 7 great-grandchildren: Madeline, Thomas and Meredith Jacobellis; Matthew, Joseph and Amy Luczkowski; and Robert Joseph (RJ) Vinciguerra. He was predeceased by his brother, Santo, and will be missed by his sister, Grace, of Buccheri, Sicily, his brother, Vito, of the Bronx, his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will also be missed by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Salvatore and Irene Nigro, of New Jersey. His family would like to thank his doctor, Ira Schwartz, and his "Guardian Angel", Ann Dignam, who helped take care of him so wonderfully until his last breath.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday November 16 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and Sunday November 17 from 2-6 pm at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday November 18th at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Mahopac. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation (www.wish.org) or Hospice Care of Westchester and Putnam (www.vnahv.org).
