OREN PETERSON SR., MARSHALLTOWN
Oren Erling Peterson Sr., 92, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013. He was a former resident of Winterset, but has been a resident of the Veterans Home in Marshalltown for the past nine years.
Per his wishes, no services are being held. A private burial will be held by the immediate family.
Oren was born in York Township, Wisc., on April 9, 1921, to Peter Olaf and Martha Louise Lokken Peterson. He was a decorated WWII veteran. He married Helen Pearl Schoonover on Nov. 27, 1945, in Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents; a brother, Gordon; a sister, Priscilla Paulson; and an infant sister Mavis.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Mel) Simmons and Louise (Basil) Christofilis; three sons, Oren Jr. (Cathy), Denny (Lynne), and Philip (Paula); 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joyce Dearth and Shiley (Chuck) Postler.
