Carl was the son of Thomas Rodgers Folmar and Willie Kate (King) Folmar. He was the husband of Grace Alice (Mathers) Folmar and father of Carl King Folmar, Jr., Thomas Lloyd Folmar, and Nancy Pauline (Folmar) Reykdal.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 15 Sep 1939 until his honorable discharge on 28 Jun 1945. He died in the VA Nursing home located in Murfreesboro, TN.
