Ralph Edwin Fellows

Ralph Edwin Fellows, only son of Asa and Edith Fellows, passed away Sept. 30, 1954, at Manchester, New Hampshire. Although in apparent good health, he was stricken suddenly at his desk in the Internal Revenue Office, and was taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart hospital where Dr. Philip Baroody found death was due to a heart attack.

Ralph was born May 15, 1911, on the Fellows farm northwest of Keosauqua, Ia. In early life he became a member of the Methodist church of Douds-Leando. he was graduated from Douds-Leando school in 1929, and attended Iowa Wesleyan college for a time. While in school he won many honors in basketball and track. His talent as a violinist was enjoyed everywhere he went. He had a great capacity for befriending people and making friends in all walks of life, and a tremendous zeal for his work. His love of outdoor life led him to go many places for hiking, skiing, golfing, boating, hunting and fishing. His tragic death leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him.

After working in Ottumwa and a number of western states, including Calif. where he was employed by Douglas Aircraft, Ralph returned to Keosauqua to enlist in July, 1942, in the Army Air Corps, in which he served with the ground crew until his discharge at Sacramento in Feb; 1946, having been last stationed at Greiner Field near Manchester, N.H. He went to school in Manchester under the G.I. bill, and studied accounting, book-keeping and commercial law, then received a Civil Service appointment as Collection Officer of the Internal Revenue in Claremont, N.H.; later transfering to Manchester.

In 1947 he was united in marriage with Mary Florence Lyons of Manchester, who survives him, together with their son Richard Edwin, his parents, his sister, Mrs. Mervin Wilson of Larned Kan.; nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death in 1921 by a younger sister, Marjorie Edith.
