Captain Kevorkian was killed in the explosion of TWA Flight 800. He was a USAF Academy graduate; after he left the Air Force he joined TWA in 1965 and had flown Lockheed L-1011s for several years before transitioning to Boeing 747s in early 1996. He had logged more than 20,000 flight hours and was frequently chosen to evaluate other pilots, a so-called "check pilot".

He lived in Garden Grove, California with his second wife Christine at the time of his death. He had a son from his first marriage whose last known residence was in New York.

Kevorkian enjoyed hunting and was a well known skeet shooter. Kevorkian was part of a five man team that won the California Skeet Shooting championship in 1994 and 1995.
