BARBARA AGNES AITKEN LAID TO REST LAST FRIDAY
Barbara Agnes Aitken, daughter of the late Robert S. Aitken and Rachel Boyd Aitken, was born on her father's farm north of Coulterville on November 9, 1863, and departed this life on December 22, 1948 at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 13 days.
In 1884 she was united in marriage with Robert A. McMaster. To this union was born six children, three sons and three daughters.
One daughter, Mary Elizabeth died at an early age. One son, James Alfred died on June 12, 1947.
Mrs. McMaster leaves two sons, Walter and Charles McMaster of Monmouth and two daughters, Mrs. R. L. Selmon of Birwick, Ill., and Mrs. D. D. Williamson of Pinckneyville, in whose home she died. She is also survived by five grandsons and seven great grandchildren, one brother, Robert Aitken of Monmouth and a number of nieces and nephews.
The deceased was widowed fifty years ago. After her husband's death she remained on their farm near Coulterville until 1915 when she established her home in Monmouth. For some years she spent her time in practical nursing. In later years she made her home among her children.
Mrs. McMaster was a member of the Second United Presbyterian church in Monmouth at the time of her death.
While making her home in Pinckneyville she was always a faithful attendant at Sabbath School and church services in the Presbyterian church here.
As a girl Mrs. McMaster was taught great respect for the Word of God and her entier life was lived embodying the strictness of her early training.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the First Presbyterian church at Pinckneyville. Interment at the Coulterville cemetery.
