Merrill David Evans, age 85 passed away on October 24, 2014 in Draper, Utah on a beautiful fall afternoon with his wife at his side. He was born March 13, 1929 in Spanish Fork, Utah a son of George Anthony Evans and Sarah Catherine Anderson Evans. He attended schools in Spanish Fork, graduating from Spanish Fork High School in 1947. During Merrill’s early years he had a fascination for flying airplanes, his first solo was on his 16th birthday. Merrill received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Brigham Young University. He also attended Graduate School at the University Of Utah and earned a Master of Science Degree in Physics from Utah State University. He worked at Dugway Proving Grounds as a research Physicist, evaluating aspects of chemical warfare. He was employed at EG&G in Las Vegas and was involved in nuclear testing. For many years he taught math and physics in the Jordan School District.

Merrill married Peggy Ann Kirton in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 2, 1967. Together they raised six children and his grandchildren were the joy of his life.

He is survived by his wife Peggy and six children, Michael, Paul (Dionne), Lisa Marie Evans, Janean (Blake) Bodell, Brian (Lisa Mae), Laura (Scott) Jones, sister in law Alice Evans, and thirteen grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers LaMar Evans, Max Evans, and sister LaVerla Thorup.

Funeral service will be Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 11:00a.m. at the Draper 5th Ward, 1617 East 12700 South, Draper. Viewings to be held on Wednesday, October 29 from 6-8:00p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.), Sandy and also one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Interment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
