W.D. White, age 60, section foreman for the Santa Fe railroad for more than 30 years, died at his home in Lyons TX on Tuesday, 8 July 1924. He was born in Indiana, came to Texas early in his life, and immediately entered the employ of the railroad [i.e. the Atchison, Topeka & the Santa Fe].

He was stricken with paralysis while on duty and lived only a few hours. He was married twice, and two grown daughters by his first wife survive.

He leaves a widow and two small children. The funeral was held at Lyons by Rev. S.C. Henslee of the Methodist Church and at Oak Lawn [i.e. Oaklawn] Cemetery, Somerville, by the Odd Fellows, of which he's been a member for 30 years.

NOTE: William David White married Marie (Mary/Mollie) Elizabeth Malone on 27 November 1886 in Cooke County TX. By her, he had three children: Hettie C. White (later Lewis) 1892-1973 (Find A Grave 42780794), Patrick Henry White 1895-1918 (Find A Grave 53190663) and Beulah White Mann (also a surname of Smith) 1899-1980 (Find A Grave 136725583). His son Patrick died as a private in the U.S. Army when his troopship "Tuscania" was torpedoed & sunk on 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland.

In 1913, W.D. White is employed at the Santa Fe rail yards in El Paso TX. In January 1916, still employed there, he is a witness in a murder trial that occurred at the rail yards.

On 3 July 1917, William D. White married Mrs. Cora Howe. The marriage license application is in Comal County TX; the wedding takes place in Williamson County TX.

Patricia May White is born to William & Cora on 10 May 1919 in Texas. She is buried as Patricia May White Dempsey (Find A Grave 186638789). On her death certificate, her parents are listed as W.D. White and Cora Wadlington.

Might Patricia have been named in memory of William's son Patrick, who had died a year earlier?
