Lucy S. Abbate was born in Italy in 1891, and immigrated to America about 1905. She married Nicola Abbate (called Nicholas) about 1915. By 1917 she and her husband lived at Utica, Oneida County, New York. In 1917 they lived at 874 Bleecker Street, Utica, New York. By 1930 the family home was at 934 Mary Street, Utica, New York.

Nicholas and Lucy Abbate had at least four children:
• Rosemary (Abbate) Garro (8 Jun 1916 – 13 Nov 1982)
• Rosary (Abbate) Di Pietro (1918 – 2006)
• Frank G. Abbate (23 Apr 1921 – 14 Jan 1945)
• Helen M. (Abbate) Chasteen (19 Feb 1923 – 14 Dec 1996)
