He was born March 31, 1951, in Kingston, N.Y., to James G. and Jeanne (Houghtaling) Krom. On March 31, 2001, he married Elizabeth M. "Candy" Strickland at First United Methodist Church in McHenry.
He lived in the McHenry area for 30 years before moving to Twin Lakes three years ago. He was a production technician charged with maintaining the equipment used in the manufacturing field for most of his career.
He was employed at Sage Products for the past three years.
He also worked at Quaker Oats in Barrington for more than 10 years.
He was a very spiritual person. Never one to sit around, he often could be found fixing things, helping his many friends with their projects, going to garage sales, and enjoying cars.
Survivors include his wife of four years; two children, Jerry (Karla) Krom of England and Laura Krom of Mount Prospect; five stepchildren; two grandchildren, Dylan James Krom of England and Skyla Nichols; his father and stepmother, James G. and Dorothy Krom of Kingston; two brothers, James (the late Florence) Krom of Middleburg, N.Y., and Jeffrey (Ann) Krom of Los Lunas, N.M.; a sister, Barbara (Thomas) Krzywonos of Saugerties, N.Y.; and a great-aunt, Emma (the late Allison) Houghtaling of Saugerties.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at First United Methodist Church, 3717 W. Main St., McHenry, IL 60050. The service will follow at 7 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Jan Parsons-Comerford will officiate.
