Enlisted as a Private in Company G, 3rd Georgia Infantry Battalion September 29, 1861 at Augusta Georgia. He served as the company drummer. He was transferred to Company A, 4th Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters May 4, 1863 as a Private. He was Captured at Peachtree Creek on July 19, 1864 and was sent to Camp Chase. He enlisted in Company H, 6th US Volunteer Infantry as a Private on March 29, 1865 at Camp Douglas. He was mustered out of the US Army October 15, 1866 at Kearney, New Jersey. He filed for Confederate Pension in Crisp County Georgia in 1916.

There is some dispute about who the parents of this man are. I believe he was the son of Benjamin Doolittle and his wife Amanda of Edgefield Co. South Carolina. Benjamin Doolittle Passed away in the 1850's and in 1860, Amanda and her children are living in Augusta, Richmond County Georgia. There is another possibility. He could also be a son of William Preston Doolittle and his wife Elizabeth Bailey of Edgefield Co. South Carolina.

His grave is likely unmarked.
