Nancy married Terry Clifford Thomas on November 25, 1967 at First Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Georgia. The day after their wedding, the red VW "Bug" they were driving to Florida was hit head-on in Perry Georgia. Nancy was killed instantly and Terry seriously wounded. He was not expected to live, but did survive. When rescue workers arrived at the scene of the accident, Nancy, who had fallen asleep, was holding a dozen red roses in her lap, which the groom had given to her the night of their wedding. Terry beautifully told the story in "At Least We Were Married," which sold over 500,000 copies. It is now available on line in digital form.
