Everett was the youngest of seven children and was only five years old when his mother passed away; their dad left the family shortly thereafter. His sister Opal, and her husband Elzie, helped raise some of them including Everett. He also lived with Elzie's twin brother, Walker Thompson, a preacher, and his wife Florence. Elzie and Walker were the sons of Joseph David and Virginia Belle Dennis Thompson. As a young boy he was a member of Cane Run Missionary Baptist Church, near Macon in Hart County, KY.

Dad was born in Jefferson County, but lived in Cub Run KY. Mom was born and raised in Cub Run, which is where they met. They married when they were both very young and then they moved to Hardin County. Albirda and Louise were born in a little red house just off Dixie Hwy in Radcliff, and my brother, Everett Lee, was born in Vine Grove, KY.

In 1945, Dad and Mom moved their family to the "holler." A nice little farm in a deep valley on Bardstown Rd, with a great strawberry patch, vegetable garden, a tobacco patch, cows, pigs, chicken's, and a white horse named Robin. This is where I was born. Dad delivered all 4 of his children at home, and with no complications. We lived in the "holler" until I was 4 yrs old, and then we moved to a 132 acre farm between Glendale and Elizabethtown. Before coming to this place dad had already worked as a hod carrier at Ft Knox, a laborer, and a farmer. On this farm he still raised tobacco, and we still had farm animals and sold milk, but it was here that he owned and operated his first sawmill. His business was a good one and was well known by many far and near. It was how he treated his customers, and how he treated others in general that reflected his faith and his relationship with God. He was a Christian, and had made a public profession of faith in 1949.

Dad loved the outdoors, wildlife, and nature, He was also a man with the patience of Job. He would sit for long periods of time just listening to all the nature sounds. He once cared for and nurtured back to health, a Great Horned Owl that was injured and had landed on the farm. This is just one incident of care he had given to birds and animals over the years.

He was a kind and honest man with much integrity, and one of the hardest working men around.
