Dr. Paul W. Johnson, along with his wife Marcia and friends Bill and Betty Roach, died in a plane crash in Branson, MO after taking off from the airport at College of the Ozarks in a small private aircraft. They were returning to Lubbock, TX after a short visit to Branson.

Paul was born to John Henry and Ada Johnson. He graduated from Crowell, TX High School, Abilene Christian University and Baylor College of Dentistry. He was a great athlete who represented ACU in the 1956 Olympic Trials. He was a competitive sprinter all his life and held several world records in his age division.

He was an Implant Dentist in Lubbock for 45 years and lectured all over the world promoting Implant Dentistry. He was past president of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, past president of the Board of Directors of the Children's Home of Lubbock, and member of the Board of Trustees for Abilene Christian University. He was a former elder at Broadway Church of Christ, served on the Board of Directors at Plains Capital Bank, and was an assistant track coach and a huge fan and supporter of Texas Tech Athletics. Dr. Johnson was inducted into the Abilene Christian University Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.

Paul and Marcia are survived by their children, Dr. Paul Gregory Johnson, Mary Frances Johnson Leonard, and Dr. Andrew Kincaid Johnson. His children's spouses are Sharon Johnson, John Leonard, and Charlene Johnson. Grandchildren are John Paul Leonard, Sarah Elise Leonard, Rachel Nicole Johnson, CayteLynn May Johnson, and Erika Grace Johnson. Paul is also survived by one brother, Taylor Johnson, and two sisters, Lonna Riemschnider and Jeanie Johnson.
