Born Sept 10, 1935 in Crockett, Texas to Tomy Grace Clinton Dawes and Roger Arthur Dawes, he grew up in Rosenberg.
He is survived by his five children and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the mother of his children and a longtime friend. Other survivors are his siblings.
Preceding him in death are former wife, Pearl Dawes; his parents Roger A Dawes and Tomy Grace Dawes; a sister, Ann Prescott; and a grandson, Jacob Johnson.
Roger and Pearl enjoyed traveling in their camper and later in his customized entertainer bus which was bought locally and refurbished with help from his son and renamed the “Sultan’s Palace” with “Rajah” as the license plate.
Their moto was to head for Montana before the severe heat hit Texas. The loved Bluegrass music and traveled around the country to the Bluegrass festivals getting to know most of the entertainers.
Three years ago, Roger moved to Coushatta Recreation Ranch near Sealy-Bellville, where many Bluegrass folks live and worked at a venue for festivals for many years.
He also liked to go to his place in Arkansas to play on the mountain and until Pearl became ill. He would go there and work at clearing and visiting his mountain neighbors for months at a time.
Roger and Pearl are remembers for taking time to help friends during sick ness anywhere across the country. They spent a lot of time visiting friends with cancer and staying with the families to help after their loved one’s passing.
Roger will also be remembered for his very strong opinions about politics for being a good mechanic, knowing how to fix just about anything broken an especially for his quick wit.
Everyone will miss his yearly “Daddy’s dip” at Christmas.
Memorials may be given to his memory to a charity of choice.
