Iona Creech Roberts Barnes, 78, of Greenwood, Indiana went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 29. She was born November 12, 1935, in London, Kentucky, to the late Benjamin F. and Rose (Brown) Creech.
Iona was a resident of Greenwood since 1964 and a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church. Widowed at age 31 with eight young daughters, she found her greatest joy in being their mother. She also found time to bake wedding cakes for family and friends and enjoyed flower arranging and gardening. She looked for opportunities to share her love of Jesus and taught her daughters to love the Lord.
Iona is survived by her eight daughters, Deborah (Richard) Gallien, Teresa Morris, Carol (Luke) Akard, Linda (Steve) Ratliff, Barbara Barnes (Paul) Creech, Shirley (Butch) Ganstine, Juanita (Jeffrey) Wilkins, and Marilyn (Ted) Pruitt; stepchildren, Stephanie Fairfield and Mike Roberts; brothers, Carl and Fred Creech, as well as 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by husbands William E. Barnes Jr., father of her eight daughters, and W. Joe Roberts.
Calling will be 4 – 8:00 P.M., Thursday, October 2, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W Main St. A funeral service will be held Friday at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
