For nine seasons (1960 to 1968), he played at the tackle position in the National Football League with the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. Born James Frederick Boeke, he attended Cuyahoga Falls High School and played collegiate football at Heidelberg College in Ohio. Selected by Los Angeles during the 19th round of the 1960 NFL Draft, he totaled 119 career regular season games. Boeke put together a consecutive game streak which lasted from 1960 until 1965. After retiring from football, he began a second career as an actor and appeared in such films as "Heaven Can Wait" (1978), "North Dallas Forty" (1979), "Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country" (1991) and "Forrest Gump" (1994). Among his TV credits include "M*A*S*H*," "The A-Team" and "Coach." He died of complications from leukemia.
