Billy was born December 27, 1948 in Carmi, Illinois the son of the late Herschel and Lucille Abbey. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp, serving in Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts. Billy was a member of VFW Post #1114 and a member of First Christian Church in Newburgh. He had worked as a mail carrier for 29 years at the Diamond Valley and Wabash Avenue offices. He enjoyed square dancing, gardening, travel, taking cruises and especially camping with his family. Billy was a loving father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by son, Robert Abbey of Evansville and grandchildren, Darren, Zachary, Kimberly and Jayden Abbey.
Funeral Services will be held at 6 pm, Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home - 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Reverend Mike Claypool officiating. The U.S. Marine Corp League will perform a service at 4 pm and the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans will perform full military rites at the funeral home. Private Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Evansville.
