VALLEY -- Mr. James Marion Rice, 78, of Valley died Friday morning, April 18, 2003 at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. Albert Thornton officiating. Burial followed in Resthaven Cemetery.

Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, Ellene Yarbrough Rice; his sister, Lillian Rice of Valley; his brother, Herman (Carol) Rice of Valley; his brother-in-law, Vernon Moon of Valley; and several nieces and nephews.

Born June 27, 1924 in Clay County, Ala., Mr. Rice was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the U.S. Army. He was a former employee of WestPoint Stevens, having worked at Langdale Mill and at the Service Center. He was an avid gardener and very active in Valley First Baptist Church, where he had served on several committees. Mr. Rice was the son of the late Cora Lynch Rice and C.P. Rice.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering at Valley First Baptist Church in his memory.
