Mr. Balish was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran and a longtime member of St. Christine Parish.
John worked for 42 years at Reliance Electric, retiring in 1983.
Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Mary (nee Mlakar); sons, Robert (Cheryl), Michael (Joyce) and John A. (Jeanne); grandchildren, Eric (Jennifer), Joseph (Jenny), Christine (Mike) Herchick, Tim, Michelle and John M.; and sister, Geraldine Sadar. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Balish. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Brickman Bros. Funeral Home, 37433 Euclid Ave., Willoughby.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014, at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor, Ohio 44060. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, Ohio.
