Mary Clarissa Greenwood was the daughter of Theophilus Snelling Greenwood and Mary Knox. The family arrived in Chicago in 1835 from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Theophilus was a contractor for the Illinois & Michigan Canal. Mary's first husband was Homer Virgil Griffin, a grain merchant in Chicago. She was to be married four more times to Monteville Flatt, Harry H. Hawthorne, W. J. Gilmore and Thomas Keenan. She had at least 9 children. She died Apr. 24, 1925 at Mercy Hospital in Chicago.
