Audrey Walton Overby Moore, 90, passed Tuesday, September 2, 2014 after several years of declining health.
She was born in Johnston County, NC, on June 28, 1924, the daughter of Andrew and Dora Walton Overby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Moore, Sr,; her parents; brother, Henry Spence Overby and sister, Dixie Pauline Overby Medlin.
Ms. Moore received her nursing degree from James Walker School of Nursing, Wilmington, NC. She began her civil service career at Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, GA and completed 26 years of civil service employment as a registered nurse assigned to the neurosurgery ward at the Veteran Administration Hospital in Durham, NC.
She was a member of Millbrook United Methodist Church and a former member of McMannen United Methodist Church, Durham, NC. She was an active member of the Bahama, NC Chapter 203 of the Eastern Star and assumed the position of worthy grand matron before moving to Raleigh in spring 2000 to be near her immediate family.
Ms. Moore is survived by her son, Joseph Harrison Moore and sister, Catherine Lucille Martin, who both reside in Raleigh.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery Mausoleum prior to an 11:30 a.m. memorial service presided by Reverend Mike Frese and Episcopal Deacon Duncan Jones. A private internment shall follow directly after the service.
Afterward, a reception will be held at 1:15 p.m. at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 1712 E. Millbrook Rd.
