Last Rites Held Dec. 17 For Mrs. Barton Strand
Mrs. Barton Strand, a long-time resident of the Swaburg area,
passed away at her home in Uehling Saturday afternoon following a
lingering illness. Services were held Tuesday at the Congregational
Church in Uehling, with the Rev. Maurice Holt officiating. Charles
Landholm was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Windsor Uehling,
organist. The pallbearers were Charles Erickson, Earl Wedergren,
Arthur Larson, Edward Realph, Anthony Clough and Harry Swanson.
Interment was in the Baptist Cemetery at Uehling.
As Carrie Erickson, daughter of Andrew and Mary Erickson, the
deceased was born on their farm in Swaburg, June 4, 1898. and was
aged 59 years, six months and ten days. She attended the Saspair
and Logan View schools. On March 28, 1918, she was united in
marriage, in Omaha, to Barton Strand of Swaburg, and they left
immediately for Camp Funston where he was stationed for training
during World War I. Upon his discharge from service, they
established their home in Uehling, later moving to Swaburg and then
back to Uehling. Mrs. Strand had affiliated with the Congregational
Church at Uehling at its organization and was a member of its
Women's Fellowship. She also held membership in the WolleLo Club
at Swaburg.
Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Willis Rabe (Muriel)
of the Oakland area; one son Gerald of Swaburg; and four
grandchildren Anita, Randall and Barry Rabe and Bonita Strand. She
is also survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Mary Erickson of Uehling,
and one brother, Douglas of Swaburg. Her father and a baby sister
preceded her in death.
