Donald Boutin died June 21, 2014, at Tulane University Clinic Hospital in New Orleans, La., where he passed away into eternity from complications of cancer. Donald was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Waterville, Maine, the son of Ernest Boutin and Isabelle Clair Boutin, of Waterville. He attended Waterville schools and at the age of 16 he went into the Merchant Marine during World War II and saw many battles on the sea. He had been around the world many times in a 46-year career. He also was in the Army, stationed in Korea during the Korean War. Donald had a beloved friend, Catherine Viner, of River Ridge, La., for 23 years, who passed away in 2008. Catherine's daughter and her husband have been wonderful caregivers to Donald before and during his illness. Donald is survived by his brother of Bremen, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law of Waterville; nephew of London, Ky.; niece of Belgrade, Maine; and two beloved cousins of Winslow, Maine. The family thanks the staff at Tulane Hospital. They are truly called to a very difficult occupation. Donald will have a military funeral. He will be missed by his friends at Waterville American Legion and the VFD canteens in Waterville, Uncle Joe's and the Triangle in River Ridge, La.

Donald is sailing with the angels on the sea he loved so much. We will miss his visits to Waterville every year - however Donald is now "Home."

To Donald: Don't think of him as gone away ... His journey's just begun. Life holds so many facets ... This earth is only one. Think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched ... For nothing loved is ever lost ... And he was loved so much.
