Thomas Vincent Banfield, 70, Rocky Mount Road, Caledonia State Park, Fayetteville, husband of Nellie Ray VanMetre Banfield, died Monday in Delaware Hospital, Wilmington, Del.

He was born at St. Thomas, British West Indies, and spent his entire life in the United States. For many years he was a resident engineer for the Pennsylvania Highway Department and later as assistant construction engineer for the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He retired in January after 28 years with the C. J. Langefelder and Sons, Inc., as a project manager.

He served overses in World War I, a sergeant in the headquarters battery for the 1st Army Division's 1st Field Artillery Brigade and later the Army Occupation. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, also a life member of the French Croix de Guerre.

His is survived by a duaughter, Mrs. James W. Mackie, II, of Brookmeade, Wilmington, Del., son, Thomas Vincent Banfield, II, Downers Grove, Ill, and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Monahan Funeral Home with interment in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens here. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon Friday until service time or at the residence after Wednesday afternoon.
