Corporal Aceves received serious wounds November 27, 1950, during the Battle of the Ch'ongch'on River (Kujang Area East) and died of those wounds December 4, in a Tokyo hospital. He was serving in A Company, 1 Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2 Infantry Division.

He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
