Robert J. "Bob" Mathis, 70, of Seymour, IN, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 6, 2014.

Robert was born August 8, 1943 in Greensburg, IN, the son of Joseph Houston and Roselena (Hall) Mathis. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1963. Robert married Sharon Kay Payton, on June 11, 1966 in Amity, IN.

Robert was an assembler at Cummins Engine Co. from 1969 until his retirement in 2004.
Mr. Mathis was a member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge. Robert loved watching dirt track racing and was an avid NASCAR memorabilia collector.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, 3 sons; Brian (Kelli) Mathis, Terry Mathis, Chad (Kathy) Mathis, 3 grandchildren; Ashley, Chaz and Ragan Mathis, 2 step grandchildren; Whitney and Bradley Smith, 3 step great-grandchildren; Jayden, Justice and Serenity Smith, his siblings Ronald "Duke" (Linda) Mathis, Patricia "Sis" Mathis and Michael (Jennifer) Mathis.

His parents and brother, Thomas Mathis preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Burkholder Funeral Chapel with Rev. Johnnie Spivey officiating.

Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery following the service.
