Mr. Dan Huffman, 92, of Crossett, who was born on April 14, 1911 in Ashley County, Arkansas, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, Louisiana. A resident of Crossett and Hamburg all his life, he retired from Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in 1976 and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the First Church of God in Crossett.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen Batchelor of Crossett; two sisters, Winnie Brooks of Hamburg and Myrtis Caldwell of California; two granddaughters, Michelle Grisham of Town Creek, Alabama, and Latonya Batchelor of Crossett; and five great-grandchildren; Phillip Chavis and Paton, Blake, Larah, and Alex Grisham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellene Thurman Huffman, in 1999; his parents, W. E. and Hattie Lee Anders Huffman; and three brothers, Louis, Willie Abe and Curtis Huffman.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at the First Church of God in Crossett with the Revs. Will Hughes and Karvin Adams officiating. Pallbearers were Brian, Chris and Lamar Huffman, Ray Cossey, Joe Howe and Travis Warren. Burial followed services in the Hamburg Cemetery under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
