Virgil Munal King was the youngest of four children of William Alvin King (1886-1938) and Madeline Stratton (1888-1949). Virgil's siblings were: Cleo King McMahon (1909-1992), Byron William King (1912-1979), and Frances Geneva King Gancy (1915-1998). Virgil and his siblings were born in Carlisle and McCracken Counties in KY, but his family moved to Detroit, MI, in the mid to late 1920s. Virgil was raised in Detroit.

Virgil King married Virgean Torbert in 1945 in Dallas, TX.

Virgil King was in the US Army Air Corp in WW II, attended Southern Methodist University and University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and obtained a degree of Doctor or Medicine in 1955. He served his residency at Riverside General Hospital, Riverside, CA. He practiced medicine in Dallas, TX, for many years.

Virgil and Virgean King (1927-2007) had three children, who were raised in Dallas, TX.

Virgil King had four marriages. At the time of his death, he was married to Irene "Renie" Siwinski, and they lived around Amarillo, TX.
