Mr. Floyd Lee Phillips, age 86, Silver Creek, passed away on Friday evening, August 8, 2014, at a local hospital.
Mr. Phillips was born in Lindale, Georgia on September 15, 1927, son of the late General Lee Phillips and the late Alice Minerva Huff Phillips. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and the National Guard. Prior to retirement, Mr. Phillips worked for a number of years as a patrolman for the City of Rome Police Department. He was a member of the Lindale First Baptist Church and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Survivors include his wife, the former Elizabeth Fitzpatrick; a daughter, Janice Phillips, Lindale; three grandchildren, Tim Hale, Joey Hale, and Amy Payne; six great grandchildren, Thorne & Ivey Hale, Alexis & Christian Hale, and Hunter & Kylie Payne; two brothers, Jim Phillips, Rome, and Bob Phillips, Lindale; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014, at 4:30pm at the graveside at Rome Memorial Park. The Rev. J. Clinton Green and Dr. Jimmie Green will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Monday from 3 until 4pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective residences.
Both active and honorary pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Monday at 3:45pm and include: Active: Corey Payne, Brian Phillips, Jeff Wigley, Pete Odechuck, Ron Hale, and Mike Wigley. Honorary: Harry Melton and Max Huff.
